I was explaining to my boss today why I had not gone to Tromso earlier this month. He said to me, ''When you get to 40, there are many changes in life, one of the biggest is that you become less concerned with the reproductive system and focus more on the digestive system''
Related to that, I have managed to maintain my weight at about 80kg

Is there an old saying?
Those who can do, those who can't laugh at the people who can....
Cecile and myself spent many minutes enjoying the following photograph of Karl. Certainly a MAMIL but even worse, a MAMIL in bad Lycra. Gareth on the other hand seemed to have picked a pose and gear that was way more flattering. (Could of course be that Gareth had editorial control of the photographs taken by his wife)
Well done to both (and to the hero, Jacques) for competing.

Weeeeeeeeeeeee
Went out for a 5k run today. The only exercise I have had in a month. (Unless you count roaming the isles of Decathlon)
I cannot say I am back to normal, I needed a dump on my arrival back at the house, my guts seemed alien and I had some slight discomfort, as if I was supporting a wobbly beer belly.
But the stats looked good: 5km easy run, heart rate about normal (if not a bit high) was keeping the pace low, as I have only eaten "properly" for last 2 days in the last month.

When is a coffee not coffee
During convalescence the family with Parents in law family went to London. There where lots of things visited, London Eye, London Museum, London zoo, visits to pubs, general London stuff (the West end show we saw was Room on the broom - well worth going by the way).
Anyways, at some point Beau Pere was a bit fed up with the food and says to me ''I'll have a coffee, an espresso thanks. - As close as possible to a French coffee'' So off I trot to the counter in Star Bucks and get an espresso. "What's this?" he says, it is black, smells of coffee and is small, this is not like a French coffee.

The none running blog
The knife has been averted by the antibiotics working and the abscess receding. I still have another week of the nasty pills and ''none residue'' diet to go.
To bring some association back, the doc says I should continue not to run while on the antibiotics, as they have an effect on the Achilles. Funny thing is, my Achilles have been fine for the last two weeks but since last night they have tightened up.... Hopefully just a psychological problem.
I have now settled down to a cool 79kg. Hopefully I can keep it in that range this coming week and start up running again next week. I will be interested to find out if the weight loss will compensate for the muscle loss.

Some Shots of the Cross
Did I mention how nice it is having your name on the bib? Well it is, as you go round people shout out your name. Although mine, sometimes the French where a bit hesitant. Shouting the name of a fish can I suppose feel a bit weird.

Not lost any weight
You would think that eating very little and not very well for 10 days would cause some weight loss. Not a bit of it in my case. I could be retaining it as water, or worse still keeping stuff in the swelling in the gut. It is a bit disturbing. My diet for the last 10 days or so has been Biscotte, Patsa and ham.
However I am on the mend, and should be OK to eat more than baby food soon. Hopefully the hot sweats at night will stop soon too.
Interesting view from the CT scan
