Having been ill for a week, I stumbled out the house for a 6km medicinal run. Cold and nasty day, but I was enjoying myself too much so continued on for another 2km. I was interested to see if I have lost any weight after not eating very much for the last week.
I weighed myself before the run and I was down to a respectable 80.2kg. Good lost the weight from Christmas.
After the run (in the cold, so not much sweating) I had lost a shade more than half a kg
BUT an hour later, an egg butty and an enormous mug of tea, weight had gone down to 78.7 That is 1.5kg in 2.5 hours. Where has the weight gone!

Running fast
It is a beautiful sunny day today (cold -6) and I should have been running in the hills opposite the house in the la Foulee des Monts Dór. I took part in the race last year, 25km mostly small roads and tracks. However, instead I was running fast and often to the toilette!
Last weeks Sunday race I enjoyed and felt I had turned around my minor health issues. So Tuesday I did my normal medicinal run. Thinking that Thursday and Friday I could put in a couple of decent kilometers followed by a decent race Sunday.
Wednesday night well, 2AM Thursday morning, Owen vomited, lovely. The second convulsion he managed to do in the bath unfortunately the first was all over the floor. To make a short story shorter, the gastroenteritis jumped into me and I was feeling super bad (After making a second visit to the house in B-e-B we may make an offer)
The whole thing is abating now, but I think it triggered a bout of diverticulitis. Incredibly, I can't even remember the last time I had gastroenteritis (over 5 years ago), so this was particularly unlucky it comes only a couple of weeks after getting over a flair up of the devit. Must run .....

This weekend was the first race in the region after Christmas (The first one for about a month) and things went wrong for me way before I turned up.
Last week I was working my tits off. Friday I did not finish until after 3am and as the kids have snotty noses and sore throats not surprisingly I started to follow suit given the fatigue of late nights and early mornings.
Saturday we needed to view a house in Bourg-en-Bresse with the intention of buying (Nice, has a swimming pool but slow internet connection) That caused wifey to be all chatty and excited, so yet again a late night before the race after discussing possibilities of the house.
When the morning arrived, of course the alarm clock did not wake me. Shite, I forced some half cooked porridge and bolted down some coffee and ran out the door. Only to find horror of horrors the night had left about 2 cm of ice on the windscreen. Even more late.
The drive was uneventful until leaving the Lyon agglomeration, then it became even more uneventful as there was 10 miles of no overtaking with some guy doing 30mph. Frustration. But Ok, I managed to get to Saint-Martin-en-Haut with some time to spare (well 10 minutes spare)
Parking could have been a nightmare, but the French love creative parking, so I dabbled and my effort was rewarded. I was only a 5 minute jog from the start/inscription. But crap... I had left the E10 entrance fee on the table at home. I had no choice but to search for a cashpoint. My parking place was still mysteriously there when I returned, so I gratefully parked up and returned to the sports center.
"Sorry, no more places available, 500 maximum" said the guy as he shut the door to the sign up. I nearly went into a rant, but reconsidered quickly thinking well, I would just run unofficially. BUT this is France. It turned out inside the sports hall, the sign up was cordoned of just using a makeshift barrier. As there where people still in there I ducked under the barrier and registered! Ha ha - The guy who told me that subscription was full even saw me and recognized me, but like I say this is France and they like creative thinking.
The race itself was tough, with 560m height gain, but a beautiful clear sunny day with lots of mud underfoot. It was fun, and would have been more so had I not been feeling baggage. The feeding station helped a bit with some Pate a fruit, some water and a bit of a rest. Time wise, I came in 1:28:53 a bit slow, but would have got me in the top 8 or 9 V1 last year, this year who knows what happened, I was down in 27th V1 (78th overall)

Way to tired
I have not slacked off the medicinal runs, it is cold, windy and wet but I am getting out there and putting in a few k's. Today, I had to look after Joanne, so of course running is just not possible.
And a good job too, I am way too tired to run on the mud without injuring myself.
Last night (while working 'till 1:30am) I polished off a half bottle of wine. Pressure from work, tiredness and a hangover meant that I have been grumpy most of the day. Funny though how just half a bottle of wine can do that to me at the moment. - Need to be carefull about any form of dehydration so I should not make it a habit.

Resolutions
OK, I have caved in, I was thinking of some resolutions (if I where to make any) while running my small loop in the rain this afternoon
a) Run frequently (even if that means less distance) This is medicinal for the diverticulosis - helps the transat)
b) Run the long run (Ha, this I would break by the end of the first week!)
c) Don't progress into diverticulitis again.
d) Come in top the 10 (by age) in a race (Best place 2010 was 12th I think http://baconloops.blogspot.com/2010/11/poxy-12k.html)
e) Above all stop winging about injuries/illness/over training problems
I think all of the above I have failed on already (although failing a) was because I failed c) ) 2011 is not over and I could make d) at some point.
So I am not going to make any resolutions.

Strugling with Addiction
I am not one for making new years resolutions - I never stick to them. I did however start trying to remove sugar from my tea. I started this "resolution" just before Christmas (I began having sugar while ill in summer as a way to get some energy) But there is a problem. It seems that I just quaff sugar in other places, for instance drop some flavored syrup in my coffee or make an excuse to have cake.
I managed a day yesterday, but noticed I succumbed to fat instead in the form of chocolate (I think the only way to solve this is to remove temptation of all that is bad. Impossible with the kids)
